Re: [RC] [RC] GSFTR - rides2farDoes the fact he dresses different or rides a different kind of horse justify the ridicule and scorn I've seen posted on the RC list by people who have never bothered to get to know him? My only "scorn" was at the article insinuating that we couldn't handle someone dressing different. I"m guessing every region has its own individuals who have chosen to "not look like bicycle riders" and we're plenty used to them...it's not as if we were all born in lycra. Duh. My experience is that endurance riders judge other riders by how fit, happy and well cared for their horses are. I'm far more likely to be observing the *horse's* saddle fit, shoes, fitness etc. than the rider's pants and I'm definitely more impressed by a well built QH than a badly conformed Arab. The author of the article is the one who brought up his surface characteristics of clothing & tattoos and it seemed to be assumed by both that's what he was judged by. I had a hard time with the idea that he's such a *real* *Cowboy* type when his garb didn't fit that definition for me. Looks like he's a horse breaker who enjoys his job, likes a touch of biker in his outfit, enjoyed an endurance ride and may fit right in in our "do your own thing" dress code. I'm sure everyone will be happy to see him at Tevis and try to sell him on the sport. If someone is looking for a "story" hoping he'll be treated as an outsider I'm guessing they'll be disappointed.
