Re: [RC] Trail Markings - Sisu West RanchAn interesting question. Like many things it has a sort of regional answer. I was an RM at a Midwest ride where there were only a limited number of possible ways to go. Most of the wrong turns would take you onto roads or trails clearly marked by the park as prohibited to horses.I ended up putting up good signs and ribbons at and after each turn you were supposed to make, and ignoring the rest of the trail. I carefully told everyone (Oral and written) of this. We had some grumbling, but no problems. Some parts of Steph's rides on the Owyhee are rather sparcely marked. I see no problems if the turns are marked and you are told not to leave the road until a very well marked spot. I call all those extra ribbons "confidence ribbons. " The potential problem is if a rider gets DIMR and blows past the turn. I did that a couple of times last fall, but recovered quickly. Obviously, if a volunteer is jumping up and down and hollering "turn, turn" you have no excuse.
