Re: [RC] Best Sound Magnifying Stethescope? - Linda Marins----- Original Message ----- From: "Katrina Mosshammer" <ammosshammer@xxxxxxxxxxx> So I was just curious, does anybody still check HR with just your hand anymore? Well, I've tried to. But it seems that every horse's jowl and tail pulse is in a slightly different place (hunting around for a tail pulse can look pretty odd to uninformed onlookers :-) and different horses read louder or softer or just plain undetectable. Moreover, I tend to lose the pulse in the middle of the count; it just fades away right under my fingers. I'm willing to believe it's bad technique, but I don't know what to do to fix my technique. So, when *I* have to know, I use a handheld. I hadn't heard about the place at the base of the neck that might have a visible pulse. Worth a try.
