RE: [RC] Best Sound Magnifying Stethescope? - Katrina MosshammerLinda Marins wrote: << I use one of Roger Rittenhouse's hand-held HRMs when I've really *got* to know. >> OK this peaked my curiosity. I've been competing since I was 8. Back then we rarely used steths at home and while training. I was always taught to check a pulse with my hand. I've gotten so used to doing it that way that I absolutely hate using a steth. They always pinch my ears and I hear more rustling than I do a heartbeat. LOL (That's why I always volunteer for timing, vet sec., spotting, go-fer, anything but PR :-P ) So I was just curious, does anybody still check HR with just your hand anymore? (just speaking in terms of for yourself personally, not for official purposes during a ride of course) Also to all the newbies out there, do they still teach newbies how to check that way? It comes in handy sometimes, i.e. batteries on HRM die, steth breaks, etc. I can also check my mare while sitting on her back when we stop for a bite to eat or drink. Anyway, just wondering how antiquated I am. ;-) Katrina =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
