RE: [RC] re: removing a saddle horn? - heidi

My dad had a very comfortable old saddle that fit his horse well and he had the same issue.  He took it to a saddle maker, who sawed off the horn and put a nice leather patch over the spot where the horn had been.  Cheap fix, and it worked just fine.  (He still has that old saddle, even though he hasn't been able to ride for a few years now--he's 88...)

Hi all, Just trying to find out some info on removing my saddle horn from
my western saddle.  I'm pretty sure somebody on this group has had this
done.  There is a local saddle maker that I will be contacting but until
then I would love to hear everybody's opinion on this, good or bad.  Banjo
and I had a great ride yesterday, the longest we've had in a while.  But,
I now have a huge bruise on my belly from being up in the saddle.  I was
also wondering if this is caused by my stirrups being too long or if I am
very unbalanced and leaning too far forward.  Any experiences with this?
Thanks in advance,
Jen and Banjo
