Cavel is NOT up and running - it was shut down on June 28th. BUT, horses
are being shipped by the thousands to Mexico and Canada and will be until we
get the federal law passed. Yes, there is slaughter for non-human
consumption BUT the profits are not there so the plants essentially cannot
operate on that business alone.

Cavel is still up and running, for the time being, lots of
legal wrangling. TX has a delegate (?) fighting viciously to allow the
plants there to re-open.
The ban, as I understand it, was to stop slaughter for
human consumption -- not pet food. Obviously, human food has a higher
value.
There is a lot of internet buzz in reference to the
shippers going to Canada. I don't understand quite how
though? Its a pain getting thru that border with one horse, how would
you take a trailer load.. I'm sure at least 25 head?? I can believe
Mexico would be easier....
