RE: [RC] Federal Inspection - heidi
This was the practice at the local plant in Redmond, OR as well. I
practiced about 30 miles from there, and often had clients who opted for a short trailer ride to the local plant on "kill day," where the horses were humanely killed within minutes of being unloaded from their own familiar trailers.
The plant was burned, the fire was claimed as arson by the ALF, and it
was never reopened. Sad. It was certainly a chemical-free and very humane option.
The rendering plant there would also let you bring live horses by and
had an employee who would shoot them for you--but it was a less controlled situation, with more margin for error.
