Re: [RC] vet check questions - Karen Ellis

my horse gobbles it up at home but is disinterested at rides. She wants something different. I'd heard this from other riders also.
Just be prepared and take a variety of stuff.

Laney, your response about your horse not eating his BP mash at the ride has me intrigued. Any theories as to why? Also, any other horses out there who do this? I will be bringing hay, BP mash, apples and carrots, but I would be very worried if he refused to eat his BP. Again, thanks in advance.

I'd make sure it is very securely contained because crewbags get thrown around a lot! My horse eats his beet pulp/eq. sr. mash am and pm but will not eat beet pulp at lunch on a ride. Unless you know your horse will eat it, I'd bring along something else too. I always bring hay even if RM says hay will be provided. Lots of carrots and apples too.

Hey all. I am going to do the Whiskeytown 25 in April. So, the V/C is out of camp and I'm wondering about pre-soaking my beet pulp in my crew bag. I figured I would mix my beet pulp mush with water in ziploc and send this to the V/C. Is there a better way? Or something I'm not thinking of? I know if it's hot the BP can go sour but, I don't think it will be that hot. Any ideas would be appreciated.
