Boy it sure would make a big difference to be able to vet in at the
finish with tack on. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a ride where
that’s been the procedure. I almost NEVER have a crew and usually
have a junior with me, have to go back to the trailer, sometimes far from the
vets, get untacked, cleaned up a bit, watered and a
bite to eat, sometimes I need to eat something before I even have the energy to
walk all the way back to the vets for the completion vet check. Sometimes it
seems like the hour passes so quickly I can hardly get back there in time. Yes,
I’d love to be able to hang out at the water trough ‘til the pulse
is down (if it weren’t already)& vet in with
tack. Where do I vote?

In response to:"Also, perhaps vets will
need to be more flexible about vetting horses through tacked just as they do at
some vet checks so riders aren't spending their entire 30 minutes walking
backing back and forth from their trailer."
This is a
regional preference. In the CT and SW regions - virtually all vet checks at the
finish for rides I've to have been with tack still on. Same
for checks on the trail.
My personal
preference is to vet in immediately after finishing and be able to let my horse
know he's done when the tack comes off and he can relax.
