My mare had ehrlichiosis last fall; the scary thing
is that she never did lose appetite or run any kind of a fever, but she did have
stocked up legs; blood work showed impaired kidney and liver function. The
Tetracycyine did effectively kill the ehrlichia organism, but she still showed
up with anemia when we repeated the blood work; I do reccomend retesting blood
work some weeks after treatment...good luck!
My 26 year old Arabian gelding was not eating
yesterday and had a fever of 104 degrees. Lab reports following the
veterinarian's visit last night diagnosis ehrlichiosis, a tick borne disease.
While he is expected to recover after drug treatment with a tetracycline-type
antibiotic. I regret that I did not protect him prior to the tick season with
some of the tick preventative medicines on the market. I hope my experience
may be a warning for others to take some precautions. Julie
