FW: [RC] Bees get a bad rap?? - Curtis, Laura \(LauraCurtis\)

Same thing happened to me.  My horse and I were on a narrow trail—straight up and straight down on both sides—no where to go but forward, and all of a sudden he stops and starts bucking—I’m trying to figure out what’s going on, and then I get stung—YIKES!  My shirt and pants were pinned to me with yellow jackets—they were all over my horse, too, and by now he’s FRANTIC and pitching and bucking!  I’m trying to get him to figure out we need to get out of DODGE!  It was terrible—we galloped madly down the trail trying to get away, but it was quite some time before they gave up the chase!

I have two broken ribs (9 years ago) to prove that horses do not like being stung on the underside of the belly.  :-((

"Bees get a bad rap.  Very few of the crimes charged to them
are true."-----------Well, I can tell you and my horses could tell you, if they could talk,  that from personal experience these particular ground hornets deserve their bad reputation.  We've been nailed so many times I'm surprised the horses don't go nuts going by there.  We've tried the pass quietly as far away as we can approach, and the run as fast as we can approach and the bees have won every single time.  I thought maybe only the queen survives the winter and we might be able to pour dirt down in the hole and fill it up.  Linda
