Get a better battery.  I used to use a small portable generator to 
recharge my batteries during the day, but I haven't used it in years. 
The battery easily holds for two nights of lights and furnace, and I 
have an inverter that lets me recharge it from the truck cigarette 
lighter plug if I need to.
