Re: [RC] shoes no shoes - Barbara McCraryDick, we have a horse that has been periodically unsound for five years due to the results of a rattlesnake bite on a front pastern. The hoof on that leg grows out somewhat distorted, as well. Our farrier and I tried all kinds of techniques and the horses did not come dependably sound. Furthermore, this horse was a chronic shoe puller, due to his long stride and short back. Frustrating to say the least. I noticed that after a period of time without front shoes, he gradually stayed sound for longer periods and at this time, I have not seen him trot unsound for several months. I bought a pair of EZBoot Epics for his front feet only (he is shod behind) and my husband rides him this way. I'm holding my breath that he will stay sound, but prognosis looks good. The Epics serve another purpose...they keep him from pulling his front shoes. With the neoprene gaiter, he cannot grab anything and pull the boots off. He COULD pull regular EZBoots off. So, you might consider Epics...they won't come off, and a pair of them is cheaper than shoeing, because they will outlast the every 6-weeks' shoeing regimen.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: <mrsd@xxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 7:22 PM Subject: [RC] shoes no shoes After a couple of years of triming & or shoeing our horsesI have come to the =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
