My doctor asked me the same thing once and I told him, "Work, hard physical work." (Loading hay, building fences, etc.) He said, "Oh," in a very small voice. No, really. I mean real exercise. The horse does all the work. I had a treadmill test once, too, and I was taken off it after running uphill for a period of time. I was told to lie on the table and relax. I did...sort of let out a nice comfortable sigh...and my heart rate dropped like a bomb. The doctor said, "I wish I was in that good a condition." This took place many years ago when I was competing more and was quite a bit younger, but it was such a morale booster to have been able to do that. It may have taken place during the period when we were doing ride & tie, as well.
