Re: [RC] Safe Containment - Maryanne GabbaniWe tie our horses for their meals to make sure that they eat their own food and only their own. The advantage is that every time you tie them up they think that it's a meal time. (No, we are not abnormally or even normally rigid in our punctuality for feeding.) So this bunch of horses will stand tied until hell freezes as long as once in a while you toss them some food and supply a bit of water. Quite simple really.Maryanne Giza On Oct 25, 2006, at 5:24 AM, heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Unfortunately, the problem here is contained right in the message-- it was tried "once." Tying is something to which horses must be educated by lots and lots of repetition. If you are going to tie them at rides, they should be tied at home--and for much longer than what it takes to tack up. Try tying overnight at home with a hay net and a bucket. Train for it, just like you train for everything else you do at rides. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
