Didn't see that you'd sent that article Kathy.  It pretty much says it 
all.  After all these months of thinking my horse's problems were 
related to saddle-fit  (needed a re-fit anyway), back problems (the 
chiropractic treatment was worse than useless because it cost a lot and 
did nothing), incorrect shoeing, dental problems, and obesity, it's a 
relief to think there might be a single unifying theory out there that 
would explain his problems.  He has all sorts of really subtle things 
going on that our excellent local vets can't seem to figure out :  he 
sort of ties up, almost founders, takes weird steps now and then, is 
reluctant to go downhill, gets large cramps in his rump, often seems 
tired, yet, overall seems basically healthy--Very odd.  I hope he has 
EPSM because I'll know how to help him.  The good news is that the 
treatment costs nothing and can't hurt him even if I'm barking up the 
wrong alleyway.... (Is that a mixed metaphor, a bad cliche, or a piece 
of originality?)
