Wow, if a 14.3 mare is too small for
someone your size, then my 15 hand mare is waaaaay to small for me at 5’9
and 220!! Heck, my 6’2 dad used to ride my 14.1 mare and he didn’t
look too big on her. I find it rather interesting that the shorter the person,
the taller the horse seems to get (and vice versa). I’ve got a boarder
that’s about 5’3 and she’s looking for her next horse and
doesn’t want anything shorter than 17h! Your mare is fine for you and
could probably carry me with no problems either. The important question you
need to ask – do you love riding that mare? Does she love going out
riding with you? If you can answer yes to both, then that’s all you need
to know. :o)

Ok, I'm a newbie here, I've never even rode 10 miles in one day lol let alone
50. I have been riding jumpers and dressage for the past 10 years and
want to know what size horse should I have? I just bought a 14.3 arab
mare and I'm afraid she's too small. I'm 5'4 and 170lbs. Naturally
all of my english friends think she's WAY too small for me and that I'm too
heavy for her (which by the way I have started working out and am working
on shrinking, 6lbs gone, 36 more to go lol). I ride in a synthetic
thorowgood endurance saddle that weighs less than 13lbs. She is a petite
little thing, but I love the way she rides, and her quirky, spooky, grumpy
personality.
