I'm sure you've read the recent
posts about horse size. Each riding discipline has its preferences for
just about everything, including horse size. People coming from other
disciplines bring their concerns with them. Endurance folk tend to be much
more concerned about the horse's way of going, general conformation, personality
and general athletic ability than on size per se. Susan Garlinghouse did a
study a few years ago on horses' weight carrying ability. She found that
horses can carry a lot more weight than we think they can. If you like
your new mare, go for it. Being a lover of small horses, she sounds just
the right height to me!
Ok, I'm a newbie here, I've never even rode 10 miles in one day lol let
alone 50. I have been riding jumpers and dressage for the past 10 years
and want to know what size horse should I have? I just bought a 14.3
arab mare and I'm afraid she's too small. I'm 5'4 and 170lbs.
Naturally all of my english friends think she's WAY too small for me and that
I'm too heavy for her (which by the way I have started working out and am
working on shrinking, 6lbs gone, 36 more to go lol). I ride in a
synthetic thorowgood endurance saddle that weighs less than 13lbs. She
is a petite little thing, but I love the way she rides, and her quirky,
spooky, grumpy personality.
