[RC] Beet pulp fed dry - Karen EverhartIf you are fans of " Horse Journal" the Consumer Report of the horse world, then you are familiar with a very tragic case history (Volume 13 Number 5 May 2006) of 2 horses that choked and nearly died from being fed dry shredded beet pulp. The Horse Journal strongly recommends that beet pulp - shredded or pelleted - be hydrated prior to feeding because horses can bolt this product easily without the requisite needed saliva. When fed with other grains, as Truman stated, the grain promotes more chewing, hence more saliva and less chance of choke..
