Would some of the grain replaced by beet pulp be better? Perhaps. Would some of the calories better be supplied by some fat? Perhaps. (High fat on ride day is not a good idea) My bottom line: If it ain't broke it ain't required to fix it. If you want, add some other caloric sources slowly and see if you and your horse like it.
