RE: [RC] Exercises for riders - Teri

I can agree with you Lynne. I use to get back pain, minor. Then someone
told me to do sit ups the old fashion way and you will not have back pain.
They were right. And it was a physical therapist. She didn't go into
detail because she knew I would have no idea what she was talking about.

Subject: [RC] Exercises for riders

The body is loaded with lots of muscles that do different things, from "big
movers" (ex. rectus abdominus which is worked with straight ole' crunches
and on the flip side the erector spinae for big ole' back extension, to core

muscles that help stabilze the spine to proprioception (sensing the body's
position in space). A person who appears to have a strong abs may not have
the strength to stabilize their spine and truly prevent pain (and prevent
surgery in some cases) ... therefore, if you are experiencing back pain or
want to optimize prevention of injury, symptoms, or be a better rider (more
balanced) ... keep an open mind, educate yourself.

Sorry I may sound like I'm preaching physical therapy, but in my opinion it
might just be worth a customized home program and educating yourself on your

specific needs, especially in the case of a person with medical
restrictions. Find a therapist that is into education...
