Re: [RC] RC Trivia/Newest Equestrian Sport - April Allison
Paper wadding, around here the shells are loaded
with paper wadding. It will pop a ballon and feels like getting shot with a
rubberband if you get hit by it. And you get your amo when you sign in.
Everybody shoots the same stuff.
Most of the horses wear hearing protection by the
way. For those of you interested.
My 10yr old LOVEs her division. She gets to
wear a split skirt or a huge billowing skirt that drapes all over her ponies
rump, and a really kewl hat. Her division runs all the patterns (kind of like
stake races.) After all the paterns are run for the day, then they shoot their
balloons from the ground. They wear eye and ear protection. She
is quite sure she was Anne Okley in a previous life.

Lani,
I think your desk calendar may not have known
about Mounted Cowboy Shooting. That is a newer sport in this area at least,
and growing quickly.
Now before you get all excited and get your hopes
up, you don't actually get to shoot mounted cowboys. Sure they can be
obnoxious at times, and most of us have probably been tempted a time or two,
but this sport doesn't involve shooting at them. For goodness sake's if
it did, people might miss and hit a horse!
Mounted Cowboy Shooting involves a
rider blasting away with two western style six shooters while
riding between two rows of ballons on poles and trying to hit them all in
as a fast a time as possible. They use a very fine shot, (like rock
salt?) It is usually held indoors in an
arena, and is very noisy. The competitors seem to enjoy it, and the spectators
seem to have fun too.
So endurance riding may not be the newest
equestrian sport, but it probably is still the worst spectator sport in
the world.
