RE: [RC] [RC] Horses Keep On Giving - Jim HollandGranted....but crunch the numbers....how many would it take to cover the border between the US and Mexico, what does each one cost and how much money in fuel and maintenance would it cost to keep them flying 24 hours a day for a month. I spent some time on a CH46....I KNOW what it costs to keep them flying....and I betcha a Blackhawk is a hell of a lot more. It's pretty much the backbone of the DEA effort find drugs in FL (and other places). They can act as a repeater for all the ground based radios and if the advisory is capable and willing to fire RPG's you'd be pretty much dead meat out there on a horse ;-) . A 5 watt radio on the horse, a 50 Watt radio in the Border Patrol SUVs, and few repeaters in strategic locations and you're in business. In our Mounted Rescue, a radio and a GPS will get you a helicopter right on top of you in a hurry. (Or one of those cute little drones that fires Hellfire missiles?)
