Re: [RC] [RC] Horses Keep On Giving - Truman Prevatt

A Blackhawk at 1000 feet with a full day/night sensor complement can see a hell of a lot farther than anyone on horseback both day and particularly night. It's pretty much the backbone of the DEA effort find drugs in FL (and other places). They can act as a repeater for all the ground based radios and if the advisory is capable and willing to fire RPG's you'd be pretty much dead meat out there on a horse ;-) .

Hmmmm...maybe so, but a "Calvary Charge" with guns blazing is not what is
being discussed here...and radios DO work from horseback. A 5 watt radio on
the horse, a 50 Watt radio in the Border Patrol SUVs, and few repeaters in
strategic locations and you're in business. In our Mounted Rescue, a radio
and a GPS will get you a helicopter right on top of you in a hurry. (Or one
of those cute little drones that fires Hellfire missiles?)

Considering the cost of a Blackhawk and their vulnerability to RPG's, I
think the horse wins hands down.
