Re: [RC] Prineville Barefoot! - now Tevis...and farriers - SandyDSA
We are in a new and aggravating situation right now. We moved about 1
months ago and we are not exactly in the middle of nowhere, and yet finding a
farrier who doesn't hot nail a horse who also SHOWS UP ON TIME if at all is
difficult. We finally had to get rid of one who thought it was okay to
keep us waiting sometimes for days. Yes, days. Okay so now we cannot find
a farrier with even a decent reputation, except for a barefoot fellow who we met
yesterday. Given absolutely no other alternatives, plus the fact that we DO keep
2-4 horses barefoot unless we are conditioning or competing, we decided we would
give it a try. So now the question is, we are in southern California - well,
actually souther central Cal, in the Tehachapis, and planning on going to the
rescheduled Hog Wild ride in a few weeks. I would like to hear what others have
done as far as riding LD barefoot, what the new trails are like, what others
have done when riding barefoot horses, etc. I don't want to even GO into boots
of all kinds, since it is hard now for me to squat down to put them on given a
screwed together ankle. So....if you ride a barefoot horse, have good advice or
even know a good farrier around here who will SHOW UP and NOT lame my horse,
no's a good time for advice. Thanks!
Sandy
BTW, we do plan to have our 3 horses who are not competing stay barefoot. I
hope it works, leaving the other two working horses BF
too.
