Re: [RC] de-elevators, elevators - Joe LongA couple of thoughts. First, someone wrote about wanting to have "something" to show for all of the $$$$$$ paid to ride management. Let's take an example: I trailered all the way from Alabama to New Mexico to ride the first AERC National Championship ride. Leaving the second vet check Kahlil stumbled and fell to his knees, slashing his knee on a sharp rock. I returned to the vet check, pulled, and had him treated. That trip cost me a LOT of money. Did I have "nothing" to show for it? Hardly. I had the experience of being at the ride, the cameraderie, and enjoyed a portion of the trail. I just did not succeed in finishing that day. Many worthwhile things in life come with no guarantees. Endurance riders do not always complete their rides. That does not mean that their money was wasted. Second, someone said something about a woman being dissed by her friends and family if she failed to complete her first ride after spending a lot of money preparing for it. Hey, we've all been there -- it takes time, money, and dedication to prepare for a first ride at any distance, and WE DON'T ALWAYS SUCCEED. If success was assured, where would be the challenge? What we do is try again. Anyone who would criticize a friend or family member for not succeeding at a tough challenge on their first attempt, doesn't understand what the sport is all about. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
