RE: [RC] re: partial credit - heidiGiving "partial credit" is not the same thing as giving credit for nothing. So, Mary, as a teacher you'd have no problem with a student getting a semester of credit in math for making a 50%? Not sure I completely understand the logic. Also, on another pet peeve, in my running experience I never would have considered calling myself a marathoner when I'd only run a 10K. Finally, WHY do you think your horse "would die." Cindy Y'know, I've got a great story about "partial credit." In college, I had a really lousy calculus prof, and I just didn't "get" calculus. Bad combo. But I worked REALLY hard studying with a bunch of other students, and I learned how to "parrot" what they did. Now, this prof would give you "partial credit" if you showed all your work on a problem. Well, guess what. I would parrot my way through problems and get almost all of the way there, but I don't think I got a single right answer on an exam the entire semester. And thanks to that "partial credit" I got an A in the class! Most ridiculous A I ever got. I still don't know a single thing about calculus. Based on what I was able to do with calculus at the end of the class, I didn't deserve ANY credit for the class, let alone an A! Sorry, but if a student gets 50% of a class, he doesn't deserve credit. If he wants credit for it, he needs to do it again. And if a rider enters a 100-miler and has to stop at 50, he doesn't deserve credit. He didn't complete what he set out to do. (And hey, I've been there!) I've heard of dumbing down--but this takes the cake! Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
