[RC] Anyone have their bars grow like crazy? - k s swigartJon Linderman said: This year his rear bars have been growing like crazy after I pulled his shoes, and I mean crazy! Thick, wide and fast. Front bars growing faster too but not so crazy. .... I've just been trimming them, hes moving square, even, sound, but its freaking me out. Anyone experience this or have any theories? Having had the opportunity to manage quite a few barefoot horses that live on ground hard and abrasive enough that they never needed a trim.... ...in my experience, growing substantial bars on the foot is the "natural" thing for horse's feet to do when they are left bare (natural being what happens to their feet if you DON'T trim them, and don't have to because they wear more than enough hoof off just living on the 100 acre rock pile). This may be a response to "ground hard and abrasive" (and you make no mention of what your ground is like); however, _I_ am of the opinion that it is a HEALTHY foot that grows big bars, down to the ground, and consequently, won't let my shoer trim them off if the horse needs to be shod because it starts wearing off too much foot (usually because I start riding it :)). That being said, I have never had the bars "grow like crazy" because I have always just left them there from the very start (the horses were born on the 100 acre rock pile), so they don't need to grow like crazy to get and keep them. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
