Re: [RC] Ferocious Dobermans, swimming horses (are dancing Endurance riders next?) - Sisu West Ranch"...then either rear or roll (not entirely sure why this strikes him as a good idea), and i have to haul him back in where it's more shallow. The longer i have him, the ...." In the 70's I was good friends with an old horseman. He had been in the US Calvary way back before WWII. All the Calvary horses had to know how to swim. They would tie them to a barge and then tow them, ready or not out to the deep water. He said that the first time or two many reacted like you describe, only being on a barge they just towed them deeper and deeper. He claimed that they never lost a horse and they all learned to swim. Please note: I do not advocate this method, it is presented as an item of historical interest. As in all things there is a right way, a wrong way and the army way. If you are in the army you use the army way.
