[RC] itching horses - Alice Yovichyes, but how can we stop it? I've done everything i can think of. My daughter's pony has already started his yearly itching. One theory I was given in years past, but never tried, was to body clip him. so yesterday, I did just that. Dang, that was a lot of hair. Boy, that took a ton of time. Boy, did I ever suck at that... anyway, I have a fly sheet for him, but it's not a full coverage one. I'm going to get it on him today. I wondered if there were any 'new" suggestions for this year. My vet wants me to have him allergy tested, but i hesitate to spend $500 on a 29 year old pony and have it maybe work, maybe not work. So far in years past I have had him on source, flax seed, various oils, etc. He didn't itch in KY...it's something in TX, and it's something that is worse at the barn where we board now than other places he boards. Last summer I loaned him to a friend for summer camp through mid july...and 3 weeks after he came home he was scratching. I've been told Blue Green algae helps this and I may get some of that this year. maybe he needs a fly sheet with more coverage? if so, can someone suggest a good one? Have you considered that she might have an allergy to flies? It's sometimes called sweet itch & is an allergy to the saliva I think. Horse's with it rub their tails and manes.
