[RC] Ivermectin - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

It's still around - labeled for cows. You can buy it
without prescription at farm stores and vet catalogs.
I give it to my llamas (who are of course excellent
at spitting out paste wormers.) A vet told me I could
give it to horses as a drench rather than as an injection,
but I haven't tried that - I just use the paste wormers
for the horses.

I'm not a vet, but I'd be surprised if injecting vs.
drench vs. paste wormer caused any problems. Suspect
that if a horse died of a sudden dead worm load, it
would be because of the effectiveness of the ivermectin
(in any form) vs. whatever was being used (or not used)
previously.
______________
Does anyone else remember when Ivermectin first came out
there was an injectable form? It was taken off the market
because too many horses died form an allergic reaction to
their sudden dead worm load. We lost one. Thank god it
wasn't a clients. Libby
