Re: [RC] [RC] ? Knee pain- new topic - Barbara McCrary

Do the hylauronic injections work for you? I remember several year ago, asking my family doctor about glucosamine, chondroitin, and hylauronic acid (HA) for arthritis, and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Of course, we horse people had been administering it to our horses for several years, but the human doctors didn't know about it. Or at least, it wasn't approved for people. So here we are now, taking Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and now.......HA. I'd like to know. I think many doctors are still behind the curve.

Since there are many of us older than 30 doing this sport, a couple of us
were wondering what everyone does to alleviate knee pain. A friend is doing
her first 100 and she has knee pain at 40 miles. So...besides the usual
nasaids, etc. what to you all do?

What works for me:
If I'm doing much walking (on the horse), I take my feet out of the stirrups periodically - riding at a walk with feet in the stirrups is a killer for me. I also (in Dec.) got injections of hyaluronic acid in both knees (1 shot per week for 3 weeks), and am on Bextra. Between the two, it helps a lot. I have a torn meniscus in my left knee and also have Chondromalacia in both knees (cartiledge behind both kneecaps is messed up). Also, getting off and walking for a bit now and then helps immensely. My knees are still sore after a 50, but are manageable now.

Dawn in East Texas (I think I remember being 30...)
