Re: [RC] Maybe shorter is better ;) - Tiffany D'VirgilioJohn and I had a long talk about that at WS. My mare is little, 14.2 and 800 lbs on her fattest day, but that mare is smart, tenacious, and has the biggest heart of any horse I've ridden. She rides big and is darn pretty to look at to boot. I'm 5'9" and a middleweight, and that mare carried me when I was 9 months pregnant, and has never been lame. She and Skoldur got along really well together and both John and I decided there are great advantages to a smaller mount. It's not so far to duck under branches, getting on and off is a breeze and they seem to stay pretty sound. She also handles like a sports car in the turns and rough country. They don't need to be big on the outside, just big on the inside. (The horses are short, John isn't!) John has over 11,000 miles on his 2 trusty "ponies" and they are still going strong. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
