[RC] Stallions in Endurance - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I rode Sierra Fadwah over 1400 miles. In days of yore, many ride managers
preferred that you put a bright yellow ribbon in the tail of a stallion so that
other riders could have an "alert" about his gender. I also rode with red
ribbons, but I tend to do that to keep other riders off my all my horses' butts.
I never had any real problems with other riders and Fadwah. Once in awhile
someone would come in behind me and crowd him at water, but I tried to give him
his own space. If space was tight, I would ask the crowding rider to please
observe the yellow and red ribbons and act accordingly. Most of the time,
other riders would recognise him, but only because of his accomplishments, not
because he was a stallion.
I towed him all around in 1988 and when we would stop for water and exercise,
people were very impressed with his manners and his fitness. I had a wonderful
time riding him all those miles and I miss him.
