[RC] Stallions in endurance - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I have ridden stallions aince 1999. First Shark, then River (right now I'm on
a mare, but will have enother stallion running in 2007).

Anyway...my stallions are treated no differently than any other horse. They
are expected to behave the same, share trail, share watering holes, and be a
gentleman. We expose them to crowd riding at home with horses they're familar
with, and push them to their "testosterone" limits by riding behind mares in
season, having other horses run up their butts, etc.

Through all this training, as well as the manner training, they learn the
differences between work and play, and I will have to say I've received many
compliments over the years when someone realized what the yellow ribbon in the
tail meant (grin). And as I have an endurance breding program, it was very
important to prove temperament, as well as skill and talent on the trail, so
both studs were taught to drink next to strange horses, mares in heat, etc.
They do very well in a crowded environment.

ONLY THING, at vet holds, sometimes the pulse doesn't come down as fast as it
could because they're so busy "checking" out the other horses, they tend to
stay up a little longer than they do at home in a boring environment.
