Re: [RC] Why not more 100's? - heidiFor those of you who have never volunteered at a 100 mile ride, it's a blast. By the time it gets late, there's not a lot of riders and they're often well spread out. The pressure is off, and the volunteers and vets really get into cheering the riders on. It's awe-inspiring seeing riders set out from Pickett Springs at the OD, knowing what a tough climb they have to make, often in the dark. And, if you're not working the final vet check, you get to wrap up in a blanket (with something to drink) at the finish line and cheer the riders as they come in. I'd gladly to it again. I have to agree with Cynthia. Some of my fondest memories (granted, not quite as special as the riding memories, but fond nonetheless) are of 100s where I have either vetted or volunteered, and have had that late night camaraderie around the fire, with lots of good visiting and lots of opportunity to get better acquainted with folks that I'd previously only known superficially as we rushed past each other at shorter events.
