Re: [RC] heated waterers - bsbatDyane, what kind of winters are they expected to withstand? What area do you live in? We live on the north coast and we rarely freeze. Jen I can't remember the brand name, but the ones I have have that float mechanism. That part was fine, but the heaters went out in less than one winter. The manufacturer told me it was probably too cold where I live. My thought was that we have relatively mild winters (only very occasionally much below freezing), so I'm not sure why they made the heaters if they could not withstand our winters. Anyway, another point of view. They have a float mechanism (looks like from a toilet float but completely covered) that cost about $5.00 that bolts through a plastic tub/bucket/whatever plastic you want to attach it to. It refills itself based on the water level. This doesn't have any type of heater attached so not sure if it would work for cold weather spots in winter but works for us <spoiled> Kelly-4-nians (as our goovenator says). Cheers!
