Re: [RC] News from Louisiana - VERY OT - Teri Hunter
I was enformed from a fellow co-worker that her
family (30) evacuated from that area only to go North to get hit hard
also. The family is fine but she stated that the people that are carrying
the guns and causing a problem are the very people that controlled the city
to begin with. Now they most likely see it as an easy way to rule.
I have to agree with Heidi on this. I don't understand why people
are so angry about the governments rescue efforts, especially when they
knew for days that the hurricane was coming. No one predicted those
levys would break in this storm, there isn't really anyone to blame, so why
are we so busy casting blame instead of doing what we can to help. The area
affected by this storm is huge, and the rescue groups physically can't
get to everyone immediatly. Furthermore, the idiots running around
the city shooting at rescue helicopters and other people are doing nothing but
slowing the rescue efforts down. They aren't going to get help if they
continue to try to hurt those helping them...and frankly, if people
are shooting other people and running around looting nikes and tv's and
stuff, I don't think they deserve the rescue efforts. Go get the people who
are doing what they are supposed to first, then we'll worry about everyone
else.
When the world trade center was destroyed, everyone banded together and
helped out. You didn't see angry mobs running around shooting
people. You saw thousands of folks from all over the united states
working their butts off trying to save who they could, and trying to put to
rest those they couldn't. We need to do the same thing. I'm here in
Jacksonville, Florida. I have called my local humane society and the
shelters that are being set up here and offered to foster
dogs/cats/exotics/horses or whatever needs fostering in our area. I've
dropped off supplies that should be headed to new orleans right now, and I'm
going to call our local horse council about sending over feed and other horse
supplies to those that need it. And I hope, when a hurricane hits our
area, others do the same for us.
