[RC] Arabian chestnut becoming a pinto - Bette LamoreMy 22 year old chestnut mare Maggie is developing gray (almost white) spots on her legs around 3-4 inches in diameter-- what's going on? Any ideas? She has good body weight, although being a broodmare she is a trifle angular along the back yet far from bony looking-- no exercise except wandering around the 30 acre pasture. She has always been healthy and has foaled out some of my most terrific offspring-- no complications. Has a couple of nicks from the other "bitchier" herd members but nothing serious-- looks like skirmishes during feeding. Having only one eye, she is low man on the totem (she has only had one eye since I got her as a three year old-- childhood accident I was told). Can't think of anything else to add except they are getting very high quality forage mix twice/day and occasional almonds-- sweet-- which they have been eating for 3 years and it has given them great bodies and shiny coats. The almonds are pretty much gone now. You can always tell by the shorter horses starting to look less like 10 month pregnant broodmares :-)So what gives?
