Re: [RC] Magnesium for spooky horse? Heidi or Dr. Garlinghouse? - Jennifer FleetHi Diane,Oh, don't worry...I abandoned the "soothing" tactic long ago. But again, (third time I've typed this, LOL) I can get Shahtahr past scary stuff just fine. He may cock an ear and sidepass by or what not, but we get by because he will trust me to get him by it. Sometimes I growl, sometimes I laugh. But those are situations where the scary thing is sitting there in our path and Shahtahr is letting me know way ahead of time, by tensing up or in some other way, that he's gonna be scared of it. The spins happen when unexpected stuff happens. A dog bounds out of the brush...birds take flight out of the bushes....something shiny catches the sun just right (this happened...I was trotting by a big mound of dirt and a car bumper was sticking out of it. Just as we passed, the sun hit it just right, making it flash in the sun - rode about 50 feet on his neck in front of the saddle on that one!). So, you see what kind of scenario I'm talking about? He is way too easily startled. The spins he does are always followed by an immediate stop, look, and an "oh, that's nothing" kind of attitude from him. As I'm clinging to the side of his neck..... :( Jennifer Diane Trefethen wrote: Warning: this is long. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
