A few years ago there was a movement to save the
"wilderness" in the Schwanee National Forest. They wanted to close it to
horse and motorized use. The movement may or may not have been
successful.
The fact is that that area was cleared of trees and
farmed until the farms were abandoned in favor of areas more suitable for
farming. It has now naturally (or with man's help I'm not sure)
regenerated itself into a really nice forest that has many of the
characteristics of "wilderness" Of course, the PC police do not want
people to think that it is ever possible to restore an area into any semblence
of a "wilderness".
