Re: [RC] cougars and protection to carry - Barbara McCraryWe learned this technique when we worked with Elephant Seals here on the coast of CA. We didn't hold up a jacket, but we raised our arms above our heads to make ourselves taller than a seal when it was "rearing", as the males do. I also used this technique when threatened by a cow with a newborn calf. I raised my hands above my head, jumped up and down and yelled as loud as possible. the cow turned her attention again to her calf and I got out of there ASAP!Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlene Large" <diablohot2trot@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Sisu West Ranch" <ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx>; <dawnsimas67@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "ridecamp" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, August 30, 2005 9:24 AM Subject: Re: [RC] cougars and protection to carry I haven't been reading all of the posts on this topic, so this may have already been mentioned-- but a tip from my experience when I lived in California and rode among the lions is this: The simplest defense you can bring with you is your duster, jacket, a blanket or even a sheet. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
