Re: [RC] Narrow v. Wide Twist - Karen SullivanHi Lynne, Interesting, in that I rode in sport saddles for many many years (endurance AND the reiner pommel) and never had any problems with hitting the pommel....but then all my sport saddles had the stirrups set back almost 2" I also rode in 14" models. As you know, after trying maybe 5 different Reactor Panel models, I ordered a custom one, with the stirrup bar set back as far as they could; longer flap and thigh block and slightly straighter flap.... Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynne Glazer" <anyone@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Karen-I agree about the flap length when the rider has a very long femur, not just when a rider is tall but proportionately in relation to their seat size--but the flap must *also* be more extended in front for that sort of rider to use stirrups at hunter length. Dressage-style, longer is enough. In my Sports Saddle, when the stirrups were at "endurance length", my pubic bone tapped the pommel in each rise to the trot--the only fix would have been a bigger seat size, and I dislike flopping about in a saddle especially when riding a Rubberband. For me.....female, almost 6 ft. tall, very long thighs; no English saddle off the rack has a long enough flap;and my knee is always off the bottom of the knee roll. Most English saddles that have longer flaps make the mistake of putting them also more forward.... At least for me, most English saddles have stirrup bars too far forward and the flaps too short.
