I don't care if you feed beet pulp. The citing of those papers was in response to someone belittling a veterinarian for telling the truth about beet pulp's upsetting of mineral absorption. This plays upon not only foal development, but athletic horses attempting to absord other micronutrients during conditioning and competition as well. ... FWIW, I suspect that much of the feeding of beet pulp falls into the "fad feed du jour" category. (I also suspect that many riders overdo giving electrolytes to their horses.) I feed a moderate amount of beet pulp to my 32-year-old retired endurance horse because, in his nearly toothless state, that's one of the few things he can get down. I feed only small amounts to my active endurance horses, just as a supplement. I found the studies Tom published interesting and enlightening (and supporting what I've been doing anyway). It's too bad such information has to be presented here in such a bellicose and self-aggrandizing fashion. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
