RE: [RC] Boots and breakover - Linda CowlesI've never used any,but they all look to me like they would have a huge effect on breakover timing and thus gaits-even the newer Easyboots, which seem to have addressed this issue somewhat. So if you had a horse already going pretty good, and went to boots, you'd want to use 'em on all four feet. I usually ride either barefoot all around or with Epics on the front, I ride hard and fast, and there is very little difference when I add the Epics to just the front feet. Any shoe or boot will change how a horse places its foot to some extent. The Epics interfere with my horses gait the least, and he's fine with them on just the fronts. The only time I boot behind is for VERY occasional training, so that we get the experience if we need to boot behind. I'd like to see the breakover back further on the Epic because the mustang roll on my horses feet places the break over further back, but if EasyCare moves the breakover back without changing to sole depth, it changes how the boot fits shod horses, horses that have lost a shoe or horses that are barefoot with a pasture trim (essentially trimmed flat).
