I've never used any,but they all look to me like they would have a huge effect 
on breakover timing and thus gaits-even the newer Easyboots,which seem to have 
addressed this issue somewhat.So if you had a horse already going pretty 
good,and went to boots,you'd want to use 'em on all four feet.
