Re: [RC] Horse w/ hematoma on butt/thigh (long) - Dyane SmithShould have had your doctor. I had the same thing, for the same reason, two separate hematomas. One was never drained and healed rock hard. Still there after 12 years. The other was drained a couple of times and is still partially there. Moral to the story, I guess, drain, drain, drain. At least for people. For horses, I'd go with Susan G's advice. Mine was also very large. Doctor said give it six weeks and it will be absorbed. Didn't happen so I had it drained a total of three times over several months. Each time LOTS of fluid was removed. Finally after the third time it was almost gone and now 5 years later there is nothing there. If one of my horses had one I would have it drained. Mine was very uncomfortable. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
