horseman's trick: paint her soles with Venice turpentine. That
should harden them up quickly.
If it were
me, I'd paint her soles every day up to -- and including-- the day of
the ride. Carry a set of easy boots with you on the trail -- if you
feel you need them, put them on. At least you have the option of using
them at your discretion.
