The complications of realestate deals have been
known to drive people to the BARS, but I think you are more interested in barns
and sheds.
Wendy always wants stalls, but so far I have
managed to avoid them.
Ideally one needs a suitable hay storage
area, some shelter, and a place for sick or recovering horses.
Pole sheds put up by one of the specialist
companies in your area are the cheapest.
Our present barn is what I consider ideal.
The East side has a roof to provide run in shelter from rain and
snow. This area, with a few porta panels doubles as the hospital and
foaling area. It can be cleaned as required with a bucket on
tractor. The center stores 2 years of hay. The West side has a tack
room. There are also 3 tie stalls left from previous owners draft
horses, where Wendy feeds some of the crew.
