But as far as the sedation drugs go, I doubt drugs administered on Monday would affect him on Saturday, although I would MAKE SURE that whatever he is given will completely clear his system by the weekend so as not to inadvertently fail a drug test. Your vet should be able to help with this. I wouldn't consider this a "change" so much as addressing a small problem (just like you wouldn't ride with a broken stirrup leather because you didn't want to "change" to a new one the week before the ride.) I would look into what is causing his need for frequent dental work, though. My 7 yo had his teeth done this past January. He has started doing the funky thing with his mouth again that usually means the points are back again. We have a ride coming up next weekend and I have an appointment with the vet to do them on Monday morning. Question...should I wait till after the ride because of the drugs she will be using to sedate him... I know the rule of thumb is not to change anything 2 weeks before a ride or at least that is how I remember it. Also, whatever she sedates him with won't change anything about his metabolics during the ride will it? I'm a newbie with a hundred questions....
